In a world where manufacturers keep making the life of a DJ easier with all kinds of 'sync' functions, there will always be people who do things ... differently! The video below shows us how you still can do a reasonably proper DJ set with a totally exotic approach. Why not use two Elektron Octatracks and just sync it oldskool ... by ear!?
Maxime F (France) explains: "No midi, the two octatracks are synchronized by ear (dj style). Video captured with a samsung galaxy S2, audio through a steinberg mr816X. Sorry for the distortion at times , the audio interface being behind me, levels are hard to keep track of while playing. This is a work in progress, many things still need to be improved."

| auxillary@Gearjunkies | 23/04/2012 10:06 Agree to disagree! It is a first try-out without taking it all to serious. I think presonally it is pretty cool. It is not about getting all DJ's working with 'samplers' but just an experiment of having fun! |

Guess what, if you don\\\'t like this style, you will probably never go somewhere you will have to listen to this, everyone has different tastes ;) I would be far more interesting to discuss technical issues rather the subjective quality of the tracks played. |
| Anonymous Coward | 26/04/2012 15:34 Looks very redundant as you can cue, effect and mix up to 8 tracks with one octatrack unit. As far as I know you can even use the octatrack as a basic 2 CH mixer with the cross fader set up for volume and effects for input A/B or C/D . Can we please see a demonstration with 2 decks and one octatrack as a mixer/effector/ sampler/sequencer. My ideal set up would be an octatrack as a center piece between 2 iOS devices running DJ player app or other synth and drum apps for sampling with the OT. |
| Anonymous Coward | 27/04/2012 04:38 planning to do some kind of setup with my numark V7 (controls 2 decks and has seperate outputs for each of them) connected and mixed through my octatrack ;) this would use 2 of the 8 tracks of the octatracks, so there is still plenty to do with the remaining 6, with samples, chopped loops, all with electron style sequencing, can be nice. also you can put effects on the input AB and CD tracks, so you can use the sequencer to automate effects and filters etc on the input tracks of the octatrack. lots can be done, not sure where to start ;) cheers |
