Audiorealism ReDominator - Gearjunkies review

Today we are going back into time to the beginning of the 90s. One sound changed a whole part of the dance music scene. It's patch title was: What the F.., for those in the know immediately know what i'm talking about. One of the very first records i heard it's sound on was Mentasm by Joey Beltram. But that one sound got very famous with the release of Human Resource's Dominator. This sound was later dubbed a Hoover since it sounded a little like a vacuumcleaner. This massive sound came from a small synth called the Roland Alpha Juno 2. Audiorealism took on the big task of recreating this old love of many of us into ReDominator.

WuTang Embraces Online Collaboration on Blend with New Project

Online collaboration is gaining more and more traction in all areas, and most noticeably when it comes to music creation. Many musical styles are built on borrowing and manipulating works by other musicians; Hip Hop, Ambient, EDM, Trance, Rap and many others. Originally, DJs would physically manipulate records to isolate and loop the best breaks for rappers to perform over. Later this evolved into sampling snippets of songs and reworking those elements by adding layers of production on top. Wu Tang Clan is now taking that idea one step further, putting the raw session files of a new song online for anyone to deconstruct and reassemble as they see fit.

Next Audio Labs Rekord Buddy - Gearjunkies review

Two of the larger players in DJ land are Native Instruments and Pioneer. Their DJ software programs Traktor and Rekordbox are widely used by pro’s as well as the amateurs. They have a lot of similar functionalities, although Rekordbox is only used for preparing dj sets and not for playing them. There are a lot of djs (like myself) who use Traktor as well as Rekordbox. For me it is Pioneer CDJ’s on the road and a nice timecode setup at home. Maintaining the same collection within Rekordbox AND Traktor is tedious work, with a lot of duplicate actions and wasting time. The logical question at that moment is: Can’t I just sync those libraries!?

Eric Thoolen, co-founder of Gearjunkies and DJ2DJ passed away

Wednesday June 11th, Eric Thoolen, co-founder of Gearjunkies and DJ2DJ passed away at the age of 46 as a result of a cardiac arrest.

Eric suffered from a muscular disease that he could control for a long time. Still, 5 weeks ago complications arose, and as Eric said himself, his disease was catching up with him.

We will remember Eric for his enthusiasm and dedication for all he did for the websites. Apart from taking responsibilities for the looks of the sites, he was also committed in his role as editor, where he set out a strict publishing policy and inspired the rest of the team.

For both DJ2DJ and Gearjunkies, Eric has played an essential role in making them more succesfull than we thought was possible. His passing away shall be felt, he will be missed by the team both as a professional but maybe even more as a friend.

Our thoughts are with Eric's family now, especially his parents and brother, supporting them with the loss of their beloved son and brother.

For further correspondence please contact Marc van den Hurkmarc@gearjunkies.com
