"MPC2000 MIDI Production Center
From Day One, the Akai MPC MIDI Production Centers have been something special. Not just one of the world's best sampling drum machines (although they are certainly that). Not just the MIDI sequencers that continue to set the standard for immediacy and ease-of-use (ditto). But more. A new class of musical instruments whose unique combination of raw power and intuitive interface has made them the creative tools-of-choice for the musicians and producers who have shaped popular music over the past 10 years.

The MPC2000's unique ""friendly"" interface simplifies the expression of your creativity
Sampler, drum machine and MIDI sequencer in one instrument
Dedicated buttons for most-used functions
Informative graphic display with soft keys

Extremely powerful sampling drum machine/phrase sampler
44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo sampling with 32-voice polyphony
Resonant digital filter & envelope per voice
Large, great-feeling, velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads for expressive programming
Note Variation slider for programming a wide variety of real-time dynamics
Extensive cut-and-paste sample editing with waveform display
Stereo Mix outputs & optional eight individual outputs + S/PDIF digital I/O
Built-in floppy disk and SCSI interface
Reads sample data from S1000 and S3000 series samplers

Powerful and easy-to-use MIDI sequencer for those looking for an alternative to complex computer-based sequencers
Supports both linear and pattern-style (looped) recording
100,000 note sequence capacity
Step Edit mode for fast recording, viewing or editing of any event in a sequence
Flexible synchronization capabilities: MIDI clock, MTC, and SMPTE (optional)
Two MIDI inputs with merge & two independent MIDI outputs (32 channels)
Options
8 analog output and two-channel digital I/O board
Multi-effects processor board
8MB Flash ROM board
SMPTE board

More than the sum of its parts
If there was ever a piece of gear that deserved to be described as ""more than the sum of its parts,"" it's the MPC2000. Of course, those parts are pretty impressive in their own right. Like the 16-bit stereo sampling engine with 32-voice polyphony, 2MB of RAM (expandable to 32MB of memory using standard SIMMs), dynamic digital filters with resonance, and graphic cut-and-paste sample editing. Or the 64-track sequencer with 100,000 note capacity, linear or pattern (drum-machine style) recording, powerful sequence editing, and the MPC's unique Note Variation slider for real-time note-by-note control of level, tuning, attack, decay or filter. (And there's lots more!)

But what really raises the MPC2000 to the level of genius is the way all of its parts come together to simplify the music-making process. Everything in one box. Designed to function as a single instrument. Without the distraction and frustration of trying to interface multiple (and often only marginally compatible) pieces of gear. The MPC2000 gives you the tools you need to do the job, and then gets out of your way.

Freedom of choice
Of course, the raw materials of your music are the sounds, and with the MPC2000, the choice is staggering. In addition to its dedicated library (and, of course, your own samples), the MPC2000 can load samples from Akai S1000, S1100, S3000, and S3000XL samplers, the MPC60*, MPC60-II* and MPC3000, the E-mu EIIIx*, the Roland S750/S760*, and even 16-bit WAV files directly from PC disks. (*Note: Not supported by v1.0 version software. Support will be provided in future software upgrades.) Here's a detailed listing of what is supported from each format. Check out the MPC Sound Library.

All the right connections
Although the MPC2000 is the ultimate stand-alone production tool, we've also given it everything you'll need to make it the centerpiece of the most elaborate MIDI studio. You get two independent (but mergeable) MIDI inputs and two independent MIDI outputs for 32 MIDI channels. You can sync via MIDI Clock or MIDI Time Code. Control a variety of external gear with MIDI Machine Control. Import and export Type 0 and Type 1 Standard MIDI Files. Or record on all 16 MIDI channels simultaneously, to transfer sequences from an external sequencer in a single pass.

Have it your way
Since you no doubt have your own way of working, we've provided a selection of options to let you customize your MPC2000 for your specific needs.

Want to individually process sounds or mix in the digital domain? Add the Multi-8/Dm (IB-M208P) output expander for 8 parallel analog outputs and S/PDIF digital I/O. Want to create a complete mix onboard? Choose the EB16 (SampleVerb in North America) 4-bus multi-effects processor.* If you work with SMPTE synchronization, the IB-M20T provides a multi-frame-rate timecode reader and generator.* And if you need to have your favorite samples always instantly available, store them on the FMX008M flash-ROM board.* (*Note: These accessories are not supported by v1.0 version software. Support will be provided in future software upgrades.)
