The Spectralis is the first “GrooveBox”, which combines the LIVE usability of the latest digital technology with the best elements of proven analog technology. We also have thrown in some other cool features which give the synthesizer much more flexibility than anything seen before. While traditional Sequencers are limited to playing back rhythm patterns and tone sequences, the step Sequencer of the SPECTRALIS makes possible highly complex sound creations which opens up completely new worlds of sound when used in connection with the programmable FIXED FILTER BANK. In addition to its outstanding analog sound possibilities the SPECTRALIS also provides DSP based sound creation, which takes care of all the ancillary needs for drumsounds and polyphonic voices. This sound creation is 48 voice and offers killer drum sounds, creamy pads and a lot of other goodies.

Extended information

The Analog Synth of the SPECTRALIS provides the following features:

2 Analog Oscillators with Sine-, Triangular, PWM- and sawtooth waveforms, all
of which can be combined and mixed together freely on the first Oscillator.

Oscillator Synchronisation, linear and exponential frequency modulation, and for all you effect fanatics even crossmodulation. In that case the oscillators will modulate each other in the audio range

24dB Lowpass filtering for powerful sounds (sounds with oomph). Of course these also come with linear frequency modulation.

12dB multi-mode Filter with highpass, bandpass and lowpass - which can be used together to create notch-filter sounds.

Both filters can be used in serial and parallel mode. Additionally each filter can be inserted (serial mode) or routed to (Parallel mode) the FIXED FILTER BANK. The FIXED FILTER BANK provides 8 24dB bandpasses plus one highpass and a lowpass Filter. As the volumes of the individual filter frequencies can be driven dynamically, you will end up with very unusual sounds.

Despite the complexity of the possibilities available the operation of the SPECTRALIS remains always simple and intuitive. To accomplish that goal we have set the SPECTRALIS up with a completely new operational concept. Behind many of the controls are hidden algorithms (macros), which make even the most complex crosspatches simple. Still, Control Freaks have full access to all of the underlying parameters, simply by using the button functions of the numerous encoders. Each switch prompts all of the parameters in the display area of the according section.

Of course the SPECTRALIS uses the proven concept for inputting drumgrooves via a button matrix and the input of bass sequencers is possible via the familiar Step Edit Function - similar to older style bass-synthesizer e. However, the possibilities of the integrated 32 track stepsequencer far exceeds anything you may have experienced before

It is possible to select a random/separate parameter of the Synthesizer for each of the Sequencer lines. You could use filter frequency, modulation depth of filterfrequency modulation or simply the volume of a particular oscillator waveform. Up to 32 parameters can be assigned to a different value with each sequencer step this way. That however is only the beginning of the fun. Each of the 32 tracks can be of different length, can skip steps (mute) a step and can have a variation at a different note value. GLIDE can be used for each Step and each Sequencerline independently - even with different tempos. Additionally each Step can trigger a MINI envelope curve, which changes a paramter in continuous fashion for a duration expressed in time counters. To top it off this Sequencer is optimized for LIVE use. Whether you want to change the playback direction of a line, trigger envelope curves or want to shorten a whole sequence by any number of steps - the stepsequencer of the SPECTRALIS will continue playing with clockwork precision. Parallel to this stepsequencer the Drum Matrix and the traditional sequencer lines play in synch. Using the SPECTRALIS in a LIVE environment will put immense possibilities at your disposal, regardless if you are a disciple of DUB or a student of the Berlin School.
