Overall:
A sonic gem all around. Nice to have wood sides (instead of plastic)and overall metal construction top, back and underside. The information window is a little small but still contains all the necessary info. Every conceivable feature has been added it seems. It certainly meets all of my needs.
Usability:
With all the onboard effects, (which by the way are top flight quality with all fully adjustable parameters) add immesurably to the overall usability of this unit. They left nothing out, from mic, preamp, amplifier modeling, to endless selections of compressors, limiters and special effects.
Sounds:
I can honestly say I have not heard ANY DAW at ANY price that sounded better. I could use well worn statements like "warm", "sweet", "rich" to describe the sound and it would be true. The preamps were perhaps the biggest surprise. They were amazingly quiet, robust and full frequency response supplied with NO hum etc. Excellent gain for both low output and high output mics. For a mic with low self noise (like the Rode's) you can't even be sure the system is on unless you speak into a mic.
Build quality:
The unit has proven itself virtually bulletproof having never crashed, nor hiccuped. It is quiet even when the fan runs, and is resonably solid in all regards. Sure the knobs aren't rock solid like a $10,000 dollar board, but certainly easily compares with anything under say $3k. All knobs, sliders and even their unique joystick controller worked flawlessly and saved time and hassle of adjustments that on other machines would require multiple moves. All in all this is a superb tool for under $2k. About the ONLY thing I do wish it had was a output for a computer monitor to view the information shown on the small screen. Otherwise it has it ALL...........
