The Mellotron 400 is a musical instrument with it's sounds derived from magnetic tape recordings of live musical instruments. These tapes are fed into a loop storage system and played by a conventional keyboard.
Extended information
The Mellotron 400 (fitted with the standard tape frame) provides three basic sounds, namely: FLUTE, VIOLINS and CELLO recorded on three tracks of a 3/8 wide magnetic tape. Any one of these sounds may be immediately selected by means of a mechanical track selector control located on the Control Panel. A variable Capstan Motor Control drive enables the pitch of the recordings to be set by the player. Volume and tone controls are provided and, in addition, provision is made for a foot operated swell pedal.
