RY30 is a 16-bit PCM synthesizer with multimode filters. Two oscillators can be layered in a Voice. The voices can be pitched and played via MIDI. It can be a 16-part multi-timbre synthesizer. The polyphony is 16 max (16 oscillators). There are no effects.

Oscillator
RY30 has 90 waveforms. They are mostly percussion samples, and 6 analog synthetic waves are included. The ROM size is not certain. As the upper version RM50 has 3MB ROM, RY30's ROM seems to be less, maybe 1MB or 2MB. All internal percussion samples can be played in reverse. There are several rare PCM cards for RY30/RM50. They can also accept PCM cards for SY/TG.

Filter
4 Filter types can be selected: LPF24, LPF12, HPF24 and HPF12. Resonance works only with LPF. When Resonance is on, the sound tends to be thinner, as is characteristic with most SY/TG synths. There is an AR envelope and Velocity control.

Amp
Only Decay rate can be edited - there's no slow attack for Amp envelope. Envelope rate can be modulated by Velocity.

Pitch control
Pitch shift range is +/- 3 octave, and the pitch can be controlled by Velocity. Though the pitch parameter ranges 6 octaves, the actual pitch shift amount is limited to some extent - RY30 scarecely produces aliasing noise. There is an Auto Bend function.

Controllers
RY30 may be the only Drum Machine with a built-in Modulatin Wheel. It can control Pitch, Decay time, Pan, Filter Cutoff and the balance of the two oscillators. Only the value at the time of key-trigger takes effect - the Control Change does not affect the sound in real time.
