Overall:
Wow, cool looking retro mixer! With VU's and effects bus. I have a vintage synth setup so this rounds out the collection for that vintage/analog sound. However this is a vintage mixer, so there is noise as opposed to modern low-noise mixers. I really can tell the difference when I have it plugged into my DAW. But that's the sound of nostalgia right? ;) Overloading the channels gives you that classic "distortion" sound (I use it on my tb-303 and it WAILS!)
Usability:
Easy to setup, no manual needed. You just need to know basics as this is pretty bare bones (though perfect for live setups, as there is an effects bus and inserts for each channel!)
Sounds:
It's got some warm characteristics. But its a vintage analog board, so, go get it cleaned! Mine's dirty still, so there are scratchy pots and, there is a upper frequency "hiss", which I can live with (sort of, you can apply a denoiser and get pretty good results, esp if you multitrack record).
Build quality:
This thing is built like a tank! solid 19" wide unit that can be set into a rack or on a desk. Power cord is attached and (transformer inside - which may be the reason for the hiss). My VU's backlight has gone out, and I suspect that many surviving ones out there suffer from the same fate. Also seen a bunch on the net that appear to have suffered from rust (WTF? I guess they lived in "wet" areas like near the ocean?)
