Dino Soldo is a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter. He plays numerous instruments live for huge stars such as Lionel Richie, Leonard Cohen and Beyoncé, and has various self-penned albums. On stage, a wide assortment of instruments encircles him. Saxophones, wind instruments and harmonica, guitars, keyboards, percussion items, and in his own words, “some damn strange controllers”.

Follow the life of the Minimoog Synthesizer from its inception through its prolific contributions to poplular music throughout the last 4 decades. In this first installment documenting the journey of the Minimoog synth through the 1970’s, we explore the musicians and the people that were instrumental in bringing the instrument to prominence. We also sit with one of Moog Music’s earliest engineers, Bill Hemsath, who recalls the process of the Minimoog’s birth and sheds some light on what sets the Moog synthesizer apart from other analog synths.

Yamaha introduced the i-MX1 on the recently held Frankfurter MusikMesse – a MIDI interface that‘s connected to the Apple iPad and thus offering vast possibilities to control MIDI equipment. The Apple iPad has proven itself as a very handy tool, combining a very nice touch panel with a reasonable size. It has sold in large quantities. On Winter NAMM 2011 Yamaha introduced a series of Apps that will allow a wireless controlling of the MOTIF XF Music Production Synthesizer.
Another year with another MusikMesse in Frankfurt. We’re back home again, and it’s time for the traditional Gearjunkies MusikMesse Roundup. But before we continue, we have to say that we were confronted with lots of personal words of manufacturers about the consequences of the earthquake and tsunami of march 11th in Japan. The scale of what happened goes beyond imagination. It has affected the lives of so many people, and then it is only logical to see that it influences companies with ties to Japan, which are a lot of companies. We bear with them and wish them lots of strength in these difficult times.
