New SPL Madison MADI interface available now

Sound Performance Lab have announced that new Madison MADI interface is now available in stores now. The Madison has been presented at the past MusikMesse earlier this year. The interface offers 16 inputs and outputs in a 1U 19-inch rack format and promises to provide the classic SPL analog signature sound.

We have now concluded all tests,” states Project Manager/SPL MD Hermann Gier, “and we are utterly convinced that the MADI interface is an extremely reliable, powerful and high-quality solution.”

The Madison

The interface features MADI I/Os, Multicore analog I/Os and Wordclock I/Os, plus four common reference levels and all sampling rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz. Up to four units can be connected to a digital console, a MADI PC card or an audio routing infrastructure via the MADI port. This allows for the routing of up to 64 input and output channels — all electrically isolated and without any latency.

The development team put special emphasis on the analog section of the Madison: “The possibility to integrate the best conversion technology in a perfect analog environment is something that had been on our minds for quite some time,” explains Gier, “and we knew that our know-how could definitely play a role in developing a product that makes the difference.” The analog circuits are now supplied with a comparatively high operating voltage of 36 volts that ought to provide very low noise and distortion, and deliver up to 24 dBu of output level. In particular, the high frequency range is to benefit and have a transparent, silky sound character.

Our concept rests on three principles: straightforward operation, flexible expansion capabilities and impeccable sound,” summarizes Hermann Gier. “Moreover, the Madison ought to set a new price standard in its league.

SPL places the Madison in all environments and situations where professional standards are required: from home and project studios to professional recording facilities and orchestra recordings, as well as for mobile and fixed installations.

MSRP for Germany (including 19% VAT): 1.499 euros.
