Making Music 21st Century Style

Seven bands set out on a journey to discover what it takes to become successful in the newly converging worlds of music, technology and the Internet. Follow along via the RM64 Artists Record blog as they chronicle their experiences and learn along with them about how music careers are being created in the 21st century

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single blog.” At least, that’s how Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu might have expressed his centuries-old observation about life had he lived in the digital age and aspired to be a music artist. That’s what followers of the RM64 Artists Record project will encounter as they follow the career course of seven uniquely different but exceptionally talented young bands who have embarked on a creative journey that will be self documented digitally and made available on the RM 64 Artists Record blog for the world to see, hear and comment upon.

This isn’t some reality TV show with a thinly veiled script and out-of-work actors. It’s not an Internet Battle of the Bands. It’s real life, as lived and played and documented by the artists who are creating their music and pursuing careers in music.

At www.rm64artistsrecord.com you’ll follow as L.A.-based duo All Wrong & Plans Change, Austin’s folk/rock band The Eastern Sea, Salt Lake City rockers The Devil Whale, NYC-based pop artists The Narrative, Midwest electro-pop-punkers Sweatshirt Weather, Atlanta’s raw The 54, and singer/songwriter/guitar shredder Bud Carroll tell their day-to-day stories in their own words and videos.

These artists were selected from hundreds of aspirants by RM 64, a Los Angeles-based A&R and creative consulting agency that works with music, media and entertainment companies and was founded by longtime music industry veterans with years of experience and a proven track record for artist discovery.

The RM64 Artists Record project also brings music and technology together as never before. The artists digitally chronicle not only their personal touring and gigging experiences but also show how fundamentally intertwined technology is with creativity today. Viewers who subscribe to the RM 64 Artists Record RSS feeds will witness as artists incorporate new gear, provided by a host of leading music technology developers, into their art, productions and workflow.

For the first time, all the right elements – real musicians, music industry veterans with proven track records of picking hits, and music technology from leading developers – have been put together into a narrative that shows what it’s really like on the road, in the studio, on stage and everywhere in between. The RM64 Artists Record project chronicles these compelling stories of musicians on a mission to both explore and define the Brave New World of music as a business and as an art in the 21st century.
