In ‘general’ producers modify dynamics of drums with compressors. Celemony has released a video on how to shape the dynamic range of drum and percussion loops – the Melodyne way. In short, control the dynamic range of drum loops in more detailed ways than any compressor can!
Tutorial Description
Compressors are useful tools for bringing the dynamics of drum loops under control. But their parameters generally apply to an entire drum loop and all the instruments it contains. With Melodyne you can modify the volume of individual blobs or edit, for example, all the snares without this affecting the bass drums. Clever functions help you here to select the notes in question from passages extending over multiple bars.
And Melodyne goes even further: Not only the volume but also the sustain and transients can be edited, without the usual artifacts that dynamic processors tend to generate.
