Something For The Weekend: Ko Matsushita RMX-1000 Demo

Last year we had a video in this section from Ko Matsushita where he used a Pioneer DJM-900, CDJ-2000, EFX-1000, Ableton Live, an iPad, Korg Kaossilator and Touch OSC to do a ‘mash-up’ of “Diabla (Metrik Remix)” by Funk D’ Void and “Flashback (Accapella)” by Calvin Harris. And now he returned with a new demonstration video but this time he uses the new Pioneer RMX-1000 FX controller to show his magic. We wanted to post this video as it is a simple hands-on video showing and, for us, seeing the little tricks and moves he makes to create a live mash-up.

Beatsurfing App – Just draw your own controller!

BEATSURFING is an iPad Organic MIDI Controller Builder. It allows you to draw a 3-dimensional controller and use it in two different and complementary ways.  You can tap it like you would with your regular MPC or any other beatmaking device, but the best and most innovative use you can make of it is definitely by surfing your fingers along routes, colliding with objects, triggering samples or effects.  It’s all about movement, and bringing back this intuitive way to make music.

Layering and Doubling Drum Samples in your DAW

Tired of your drum sounds? Want to mix electronic samples with acoustic drums? In the video below Ryan from The Looploft shows us how to quickly layer and “double” multitrack drums in Logic 9 with electronic samples. This same production technique can be used in almost any DAW (Pro Tools, Ableton, Cubase, etc.) with drum replacement plugins, like Drumagog or Steven Slate Drum Replacer.

Beatport announces Beatport Mixes (beta)

Beatport, the world’s largest dance music community and music store for DJs, today debuted a new service designed to sell mixtapes from the world’s leading DJs, called ‘Beatport Mixes.’ While other services have attempted to distribute mixtapes through overlay-heavy podcasts or ad-ridden Internet radio-like experiences, Beatport Mixes presents the entire long-form, continuous mixtape as the DJ intended it to be heard—in DRM-free, high-definition files.

Something for the Weekend: The Sound of Prometheus

Another great feature by The SoundWorks Collection in which they talk with the sound team of Director Ridley Scott’s latest science fiction film “Prometheus” including Supervising Sound Editors Mark Stoeckinger and Victor Ennis, Sound Re-recording Mixers Ron Bartlett and Doug Hemphill, Sound Designers Ann Scibelli and Alan Rankin, and Sound Effects Researcher Charlie Campagna.
