The original Hartmann Neuron was an electronic musical instrument designed and built by German industry designer Axel Hartmann in the years 2001-2004. The Neuron synthesizer used an Artificial Neural Network to create a digital computer model from sampled sounds, implementing a new synthesis technology which was developed by Stephan Bernsee at Prosoniq.
Hartmann, manufacturers of the Neuron and Neuron VS, have stated that they are on the brink of bankruptcy. A subcontracter which produces the Hartmann products sold a large number of products from their stock against under-cost prices, without the knowledge of Hartmann, to internet resellers. The result of these illegal sales is the total breakdown of the Hartmann sales structure.
Planned for release in September 2004, Hartmann Music announced their Neuron VS Software Synthesizer, a PC and MAC compatible application.
