Genelec intros 1038CF and 8020B monitors plus 8260A DSP System

At the last MusikMesse in Frankfurt Genelec previewed a few new products for thsi year. They introduced the new 1038CF 3-way active monitoring system and an update of the 8020A 2-way active monitor system, appropriately called 8020B. Furtermore they gave us a preview of the 8260A 3-way DSP Active Monitor.

New Genelec 1038CF 3-way Active Monitor
Based on the highly acclaimed full range Genelec 1038B 3-way monitoring system and as a response to high customer demands for the same Mid/High performance in a compact package, the 1038CF main new features are a very flat enclosure depth (version F) of only 235 mm and dual 8” long throw bass drivers.

It features a limited bass response, with a -2.5 dB point at 57 Hz, as the focus is on Mid/High performance. The system should be used in combination with a subwoofer in either stereo or multichannel applications. The 1038CF very compact enclosure measures only 610 mm x 470 mm x 235 mm (HxWxD) making it highly suitable for on-wall, free standing as well as flush-mounted applications . The system has a built in amplifier unit delivering a total of 420 W into two 210 mm (8”) long throw bass drivers, 130 mm proprietary Genelec midrange driver and a 25 mm metal dome tweeter loaded into an advanced Genelec Directivity Controlled Waveguide (DCW™). The system is capable of delivering sound pressure levels of 124 dB maximum peak acoustic output per pair at 1 m measured with music material.

New Genelec 8020B 2-way Active Monitor
The successful Genelec 8020A 2-way active monitor system has been updated to become the 8020B. With this introduction, Genelec is clearly showing more emphasis on environmental care.

The basic change in the B model is the addition of a mains power switch now located on the enclosure’s rear panel. The rotary front panel control is used for sound level adjustement only. The audio signal can still be muted (the front LED stays on) in turning the front panel volume knob fully anti-clockwise, but actual mains power is only switched off using the rear panel on/off power switch which turns the front LED on/off. This also enables turning the power off without changing the set level, as in all of our other products. Along with this change, the second rear-mounted XLR connector has been removed.

The 8020B features a 105 mm (4 inch) bass driver along with a 19 mm (3/4 inch) tweeter loaded into a new advanced Genelec Directivity Controlled Waveguide (DCW™). The free field frequency response is 66 Hz to 20 kHz (± 2.5 dB). Maximum peak SPL output per pair with music material is 105 dB at 1 m. Bass and treble are each powered by 20 watt amplifiers.

Genelec 8260A 3-way DSP Active Monitor
The 8260A is a master piece in electro-acoustic design as mechanical, acoustical, and signal processing designs are intimately linked together. It uses a die-cast aluminum enclosure, which provides new possibilities to perfect the quality of a monitoring loudspeaker. For given external dimensions the internal effective volume can be increased, improving low frequency efficiency and providing extended LF cut-off which is at 26 Hz (-3 dB) in the 8260A. Also, enclosure vibrations can be eliminated by integrating stiffening ribs. The DSP processor in the 8260A contains all basic loudspeaker signal processing functions, such as the crossover filters, driver equalization, driver position alignment, as well as all the room alignment related filters, such as the room response equalizers and time-of-flight correction.

The 8260A loudspeaker system represents Genelec’s cutting-edge innovations in all technology domains: the corner stone of the enclosure design heritages the advantages of the 8000 series. In addition, the electronic domain (hardware and software) of the system benefits from the advanced 8200 Series design with advanced AutoCal™ auto-calibration system. The MDC™ coaxial MF/HF breakthrough solution makes the loudspeaker unique in the market.
