New Sounds and Samples on Sample Sunday

Yes, we know it is supposed to be posted on (sample) saturday, but with all the holidays, we post them today (sunday) for once! These are the releases we have encountered this past Christmas week on the Loops and Samples front. Just like the quality of the audio software we use these days the quality of the content we use (loops and samples) equally matches the high standards of this software. Below is this weeks selection.

DJ Spooky Introduces Novation Launchpad

From humble beginnings as a party DJ in downtown New York, Paul D. Miller (a.k.a. DJ Spooky) is today a formidable force in hip hop. But he’s also an acclaimed multimedia artist who’s written on the subject of the history of hip hop and the aesthetics and art of the genre, and has criss-crossed the globe on the search for art and music. His latest Album, The Secret Song, is a fusion of hip hop, dub, rock, house and breakbeat, with snippets of the numerous genres moulded together to form what reviewers have said “may be the only concept recording of the 21st century that can be considered crucial listening”.

u-he has updated Uhbik to v1.1, which includes the addition of a new plug-in: Uhbik-G / GrainDad. GrainDad is a Granular pitch shifter and vast audio mangling device. Tape stop effects, reversing effects, weird metallic drones from otherwise harmless material. Try on drum loops first.

Urs Heckmann releases Zebra 2.5

Urs Heckmann (U-He) has updated Zebra to v2.5, which includes improved preset management, a new contrast rich user interface, unlimited undo/redo for parameter changes, improved filter algorithms, a new Duophonic mode, 100+ new presets by Howard Scarr, and Zebrify, a new effect plug-in that puts all the goodness of Zebra on any audio track.

WaveLab Updates for Windows 7 Now Available

Today Steinberg releases new updates for the WaveLab family. The versions WaveLab 6.1.1, WaveLab Studio 6.1.1 and WaveLab Essential 6.0.1 provide compatibility with the Windows 7 operating system. These updates have not run all quality assurance tests as is the case with regular updates, therefore no additional support is available for these versions.

Steinberg HALion 4 Blog Goes Live

Steinberg is pleased to announce that it is working on the fourth incarnation of HALion, its widely acclaimed software sampler, and would like to keep dedicated HALion users posted on important news regarding the development of HALion 4. For this purpose, Steinberg is adding to its social media tools with the launch of a HALion 4 development blog which will feature insights into the ongoing process, interviews and more.

Mathew Lane releases DrMS spatial processor plugin version 3

Version 3 of the DrMS spatial processor plugin was re-coded from the ground up in a partnership with Mu Technologies. DrMS is now a true native VST/AU/RTAS plugin for OSX and Windows that no longer requires the Pluggo Runtime shell. V3 is compatible with all major DAWs supporting VST, AudioUnit or RTAS, including the latest versions of Cubase, Nuendo, Logic, Live and ProTools, both on Mac and PC.
