Introduction to Machine
 – A Unique Compilation Album

Machine is a unique compilation album and collaborative effort, produced by the Elektron-Users community. Machine – a single word and concept that has guided the imagination of electronic musicians for decades: one word that has captured the attention of electronic music makers, from the early pioneers to the electronic luminaries of today.  As relevant as ever, we have chosen this concept to provide a starting point for the Machine compilation album. The compilation seeks to investigate various aspects of this term, and bring some new interpretations to the table.

Acid Pro – The Sonic Foundry Story – Video

Recently I came across this video on Youtube. It is from Jason Donnelly (a.k.a. DJ Puzzle) who worked at Sonic Foundry in the early days. Sonic Foundry are the developers of the Acid Pro DAW software. Eventually, around 2000, the company was sold to Sony. Jason tells us his story how he worked there in the early days, untill he had to leave because of the market crash winter of 2000. This story appeals to me because Acid Pro (2.0) was the first real DAW software that I used, after playing around with some simple looptrackers and stuff. Allthough over the years I have switched to Steinberg’s Cubase I still have it installed on my computer. I seem unable to get rid of it. And I even use it from time to time as I still think when you work with samples and loops this software is one of the best.

Apples iPad and Music Apps – Gearjunkies Review part 1

Apples iPad and Music Apps – Gearjunkies Review part 1

The iPad has been available for a while now and as promised we are gonna try to give you an insight on the use of the iPad in the studio and on stage. As the release of the iPad in the US was much earlier (then Europe) I have gotten a good overview of apps that are available and what is about to be released. This review or maybe better said, this iPad story mainly focuses on the use of the iPad with music/audio apps in an studio/stage environment. The apps that will be discussed are just a selection of the large amount of apps available at the moment. And allthough the iPad is only just released there is already so much to discuss that there will be several parts to this story.

Something for the Weekend: DJ Ruthless scratching with cassettes

Ok when you think you have seen it all… this comes along.Yes I know I wrote this exact same line before, but come on! Bare with me, after the Mind Control Synthesizer. We now have a video of DJ Ruthless Ramsey doing a live mix session scratching with good-old cassette tapes. In a world were DJ’s already are leaving CD’s behind and going to work with a couple of SD Flash drives, this guy makes his magic with cassettes! Even though this video has been recorded in 2007…

Avid Mbox 3 expected to be released next week…

As the internet was flooded with rumours on the arrival on a new Mbox from AVID last week, there were still no pictures to be found. But, … the pictures below just came in. Apparently AVID didn’t succeed in keeping them under wraps untill the official release. Like with the Mbox2 there will be two Mbox 3 versions. First the regular and a lighter‘ Mbox 3 Mini version. We don’t have any new specifications for both versions. It is to be expected that there will be no Mbox Pro version. Rumours are that it will be replaced by a totally new product expected at Winter NAMM 2011.
