Last night, Trent Reznor won a Academy Award (Oscar) for the original soundtrack he made together with Atticus Ross for The Social Network. In honour of that achievement we are posting a video where Melena Ryzik visits Trent Reznor in his home studio to discuss his work on the Oscar nominated score of “The Social Network.” originally posted by the New York Times.
Silly title of this post, we know. Because we assume you know what Soundcloud is or else you have been living under a rock for the past 2 years (just kidding, … don’t hate us!). But SoundCloud is a online audio platform that lets music professionals receive, send and distribute their music. Primarily SoundCloud provides an efficient and simple way for music professionals to exchange music they are working on in private settings allowing for easy collaboration and communication prior to a public release.
Nick from Serato remixes a hip hop classic on the fly using The Bridge software, an Akai APC-40, and a few Novation Dicers. Ableton and Serato bridge the gap between music production and DJing with The Bridge. The Bridge requires Serato Scratch Live 2.1.1 and Ableton Live/Suite 8.2 or above.
Our friends at Winksound grabbed themselves a Novation Nocturn 49 to their studios and together with Novation product specialist Brandon Carroll they show us more on the features of this MIDI controller keyboard. The Nocturn Keyboard is an intelligent plug-in/sequencer controller. It has a high quality keyboard, with 8 drum pads and a total of 33 assignable controls, which allow you to get hands-on control of your virtual instruments, effects plugins and music production software such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live and Reason.
I came across this video below today. At first I thought this would be an attempt of a hoax. But then again it was hosted at the official Audi Youtube account, plus it has been released in may 2010, so… I guess it’s real. Audi surely takes its ‘corporate sound‘ very seriously. Audi took almost one and a half-year of development to create a virtual “AUDI Sound Studio”. This ‘sound studio’ is the basis for all creatives, composer and sound designer to create the AUDI sound.
Where have we seen this before? Yep, you are right! Check out what Hit’n’Mix is all about. Strip CD tracks & MP3s down into their basic building blocks. Change and mash up/remix vocals & individual instruments. Even copy between tracks!
I like this! Jakob Lee (Denmark) performs a partly improvised song with just Ableton Live 8, Two novation launchpads, Korg R3, Firebox, and a Mackie Mixer.
We love these behind the scenes/production videos here at Gearjunkies.com They show so much more. How and why users use the software they have chosen. This time it’s the musical director of the Black Eyed Peas, Printz Board showing us how he creates a track with Propellerheads Reason.
Gearjunkies good friend Michel Osenbruggen, maybe better known as Synth.nl, is one of those person we can truly call a natural ‘Gearjunkie’. If you look at his pictures of his studio then you really know exactly why we call him that. If you are into analog vintage gear, you’ll probably think he is working in a ‘vintage gear heaven’. He has a large, extensive collection of synthesizers. From way (… way!) back to the modern classics! One of his latest projects was the built of a drum module based on the schematics from the ‘Electronic Drum Cookbook‘ by Thomas Henry. The video below shows us the results.
Native Instruments have just made the information available we all were waiting for. The next generation of Traktor software! With TRAKTOR 2 Technology Inside, the entire TRAKTOR family has been completely re-engineered for maximum power and simplicity.

Phosphor is a VSTi/AU instrument modeled on the alphaSyntauri, a vintage digital additive synth. The original alphaSyntauri required an Apple //e to operate, but Audio Damage have gone ahead and eliminated the middle-man, and now you can have this classic digital synth in your DAW of choice.
