This rackmount unit for the MidiStream receiver takes up 1U rack space and brings the antennas round to the front of the unit for satisfactory operation in a rack situation. The complete receiver is screwed into the rackmount, the leds are visible through holes in the rack panel and tails from the front mounted BNC sockets are connected to the existing BNC sockets on the rear of the receiver.

Industry rumours revealed that Apple is developing a FireWire audio interface for GarageBand. Apple Computer is expected to introduce a new audio interface for GarageBand users in the coming months. The analog FireWire audio device, the first product of its recently created iPod division, will allow users to directly record audio using any Mac and Apple’s GarageBand music studio application. According to reputable sources, the company is on track to begin manufacturing the device overseas next month.


The device, code-named Q97 or ASTEROID, has been under development at the company for the better part of the year. Typically referred to as a breakout box in the music recording industry, the external audio device attaches to a computer and offers audio inputs and outputs for attaching instruments or other audio sources. Apple is reportedly building the device around GarageBand, its popular application for aspiring musicians.

Edirol releases Mac OS X Drivers

M-Audio releases Firewire SOLO

M-Audio has introduced the FireWire Solo, an easy-to-use interface for recording guitar tracks on the computer.


This compact bus-powered unit is perfect for desktop or laptops. The metal chassis can be rack-mounted as well. In addition to the 1/4 inch guitar input right on the front panel, a microphone input with phantom power also accommodates recording of vocals, acoustic guitars and other instruments. Both of these inputs feature gain control and clipping LEDs. There are also dual line inputs for effects, drum machines and other outboard gear. Coaxial S/PDIF digital I/O provides both 2-channel PCM and pass-through of AC-3 and DTS surround-encoded content.
