Finally, a keyboard that unlocks the expressive potential of synthesis. The promise of synthesis was to produce any instrument sound from a MIDI keyboard. However, if you’ve ever tried to play a convincing guitar, sax, violin, clarinet or cello solo on a MIDI keyboard, you’ve found it to sound static and lifeless because keyboards can’t do much more than turn sounds on and off at different volumes. LinnStrument takes a new approach, capturing each finger’s subtle movements in three dimensions for simultaneous fine control of note expression, pitch and timbre. With this level of expressive control, the promise of synthesis is finally a reality.

Over 300 Fairlight sounds added to Nord Sample Library

Nord Keyboards this week announced a major addition to the Nord Sample Library, the sounds of the legendary Fairlight digital sampler. The Fairlight was the first commercially available polyphonic sampler when launched back in 1979 and it opened up the doors of sampling to many artists and producer during the 80’s. The sounds in this collection were all sampled from a newly overhauled Fairlight CMI System IIx, with detailed mapping to capture that characteristic Fairlight sound!

March 25, 2014 marks the two-year anniversary of the re-opening of Wisseloord Studios in the Netherlands. Coinciding with the anniversary, Wisseloord unveils its new Studio4, known as the ‘Vintage Room’: a one-room concept studio, with the look and feel of a living room, but with technical amenities catering to smaller productions, tracking sessions, collaborative songwriting, and the like.
