Last weekend in Los Angeles, Melodyne manufacturer Celemony became the first German software company ever to be honored by the Recording Academy with its Technical Grammy. The highest distinction in the music business, this is given in recognition of “contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field” and is equivalent to an Oscar in the film industry.
Cause for great joy at Celemony: the Recording Academy has announced that the Munich software house (“Melodyne”) will be honored in February 2012 with the Technical Grammy. The Technical Grammy is one of the most important international awards and is awarded to individuals and companies who have made contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field.
Celemony published a video Interview with legendary singer Midge Ure. He talks about Ultravox, his work in the studio and which role Melodyne has in the process. Midge Ure is fascinated by DNA Direct Note Access and the possibility to edit individual notes in polyphonic audio: “This isn’t a piece of software, this is black magic!” His workflow today: “Now everything I do, I stick it into Melodyne and see if I can make it better“.
Celemony has a birthday to celebrate: the company was founded 10 years ago, and Melodyne has been with them for 10 years. 10 years in which the outstanding software has gone from an insider tip to one of the most highly valued audio tools around. Celemony is expressing its thanks with 10 of the legendary wooden boxes in which the first Melodyne was delivered. Each box contains a license for Melodyne editor, for Melodyne studio and for all Celemony software products released in the next 10 years. What that means is that everyone who gets a box will receive all the software products and updates released by Celemony until the year 2020 free of charge.
