Gearjunkies MusikMesse 2011 Roundup

Gearjunkies MusikMesse 2011 Roundup

Another year with another MusikMesse in Frankfurt. We’re back home again, and it’s time for the traditional Gearjunkies MusikMesse Roundup. But before we continue, we have to say that we were confronted with lots of personal words of manufacturers about the consequences of the earthquake and tsunami of march 11th in Japan. The scale of what happened goes beyond imagination. It has affected the lives of so many people, and then it is only logical to see that it influences companies with ties to Japan, which are a lot of companies. We bear with them and wish them lots of strength in these difficult times.

The Story Of Soundcloud

Some of you might know that the two SoundCloud founders are both Swedish and moved from Stockholm to Berlin to start working on SoundCloud full-time together with a team. A few weekends ago, adidas originals Sweden visited Alex & Eric on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Berlin to follow and capture their every moves. In this really cool video, they look back at how and why SoundCloud got started and ends with the two founders talking about startups to a group of entrepreneurs at the Berlin Startup Camp

John Bowen posted on the Matrixsynth blogspot about a new 8-voice all analog synthesizer showing up at the EMC/Moog Booth (which they share with the Solaris, Muse, Spektralis and Mellotron guys). It has 107 knobs, 7 filters, 4 Oscillators and a digital memory for storing presets. It’s a heavy one weighing 55 kilos. We decided we would take a look at this ‘beast’.

The IOTINE CORE is an analog mixing tool designed to allow flexible sound shaping for a recording or live environment. The IC is ideal for breaking up a track for creative sound design and mixing.

Sound of the Roland Jupiter-80 – Audio Demo

Sound of the Roland Jupiter-80 – Audio Demo

To be honest one of the top items on the Gearjunkies MusikMesse ‘to-do-list’ was the Roland Jupiter-80 workstation. Thinking about the original Jupiter series we just had to see what the ‘new’ version was about! We were fortunate to catch the first presentation of this new synth by Roland. Thanks to the good people of IK Multimedia and Media Satelitte we could use an iRig Mic. So we tried to record the sounds of the Jupiter-80 during this presentation. Beware it is recorded by hand during that presentation on our iPad.
