Something for the Weekend: Richie Hawtin – Plastikman.Arkives

We know Richie Hawtin as a DJ who isn’t afraid to embrace new technologies. He definitely uses the latest technologies in order to make his performances as unforgettable as any other you probably will see or have seen. Richie Hawtin’s triumphant return to the stage as Plastikman in 2010 proved that his best-known alias is as innovative and as relevant as ever. Hawtin has taken Plastikman’s most classic material, originally released between 1993 and 2003, and reworked it for a truly live performance accompanied by mind-bending, synchronized visuals—a sound and light show like no other, one that collapses the distance between present-day festivals and the uncompromisingly underground warehouse parties of the mid ’90s.

Soundcloud responds to new Content Identification System

Soundcloud responds to new Content Identification System

As of the end of last year Soundcloud has turned their copyright infringement policy a notch up. Several DJs for example have found their mixes, hosted at Soundcloud, to be removed for example. Soundcloud has teamed up with Audible Magic, a provider of digital media identification and copyright tracking services. We noticed some discontent amongst users of Soundcloud, because even music with the correct and proper copyrights had been removed. To be clear about this issue and their policy, Soundcloud posted a response on the Soundcloud blog.

The ART of the 12 inch – ZTT compilation

Anyone who got their taste for electronic music way back in the 80’s probably knows the famous ZTT (Zang Tumb Tuum) label. If not, … shame on you! Most famous electronic music acts on the label include The Art of Noise, Propaganda, Frankie goes to Hollywood, 808 State and many more. Early next month, London label Salvo will release The Art of the 12″, a collection of tunes from the classic imprint of ZTT.

The Sound Of Tron – Video

This is a cool video. We personally love the soundtrack from Tron:Legacy, which has been scored by Daft Punk. But there is more to the audible features of this movie. The sound design is pretty much awesome too. The Soundworks Collection made this video interview with the people behind the Tron sound design.

Something for … Christmas: Jean-Michel Jarre … 1979!

If there is a list of people contributing to the evolution of electronic music, like an ‘electronic music hall of fame’, then this man definitely will be on it! Monsieur Jean-Michel Jarre! Especially his first albums were, to me personally, a revolution, an epiphany, an instant love for electronic music. Maybe even one of the reasons I ended up here at Gearjunkies. These sounds from these electronic boxes were just … awesome! Sounds I never had heart before.
