Little visit to the Rob Papen Studio

Little visit to the Rob Papen Studio

One of our team members, Marc, had a little visit at the studio of Rob Papen where he does his magic with the instruments and effects he developes. A short visit turned into a long stay as they discussed past and future products. Most interesting of all were of course the future ones. A known fact is that Rob is working on a drum instrument called Punch. Rob showed Marc the early lay out without the final GUI. As Marc is a beta tester voor many of the Rob Papen instruments and having experience in sound design himself, he got an invite from Rob to create sounds for this drum VSTi.

Difficult to remember how we ever took four years to make a record – ROGER O’DONNELL

Difficult to remember how we ever took four years to make a record – ROGER O’DONNELL

Since we (Gearjunkies) entered the world of the social media communities, we got the opportunity to connect with lots of cool people and even fellow ‘gear enthusiasts’ like ourselves. One of those people is Roger O’Donnel. He is an artist, producer, musician from the UK with which I had the pleasure to have a conversation with. I asked him about his methods, his projects and of course his gear. With his experience in the industry he had to perfect view on how the ‘way-of-working’ has changed over the years: “… difficult to remember how we ever took four years to make a record…

Sampler Album from Trent Reznor – The Social Network

Trent Reznor, together with Atticus Ross, are responsible for the score of the coming motion picture The Social Network (october 1st). This is the much anticipated movie about the story of Mark Zuckenberg, the (co-) founder of facebook. As mentioned Trent and Atticus have written the score for this movie. The original sound track is available for pre-order but the good news is that Trent has released a FREE five track sampler EP. Download your sampler and pre-order at Reznor’s Null Corporation site. Introduction to Machine
 – A Unique Compilation Album

Machine is a unique compilation album and collaborative effort, produced by the Elektron-Users community. Machine – a single word and concept that has guided the imagination of electronic musicians for decades: one word that has captured the attention of electronic music makers, from the early pioneers to the electronic luminaries of today.  As relevant as ever, we have chosen this concept to provide a starting point for the Machine compilation album. The compilation seeks to investigate various aspects of this term, and bring some new interpretations to the table.

Apples iPad and Music Apps – Gearjunkies Review part 1

Apples iPad and Music Apps – Gearjunkies Review part 1

The iPad has been available for a while now and as promised we are gonna try to give you an insight on the use of the iPad in the studio and on stage. As the release of the iPad in the US was much earlier (then Europe) I have gotten a good overview of apps that are available and what is about to be released. This review or maybe better said, this iPad story mainly focuses on the use of the iPad with music/audio apps in an studio/stage environment. The apps that will be discussed are just a selection of the large amount of apps available at the moment. And allthough the iPad is only just released there is already so much to discuss that there will be several parts to this story.

Synth-Project impOSCar2 Controller in action – Video

After the build of the Desktop Version, Mario Jurisch wanted to have his own impOSCar Controller. Instead of a second desktop controller he decided to go for a keyboard version. Trying to emulate the looks and feel of the original hardware synth. His goal was to create a modern OSCar with the features of the new impOSCar2 Software Synth from GForce. And talking about the impOscar2 VSTi, allthough we haven’t heart much about it, it is still in development and being tested as we speak. However a release date still hasn’t been set.

A Special Moog for Down Under!

A Special Moog for Down Under!

It seems Moog had another new synth up their sleeve, but we all missed it as it was unveiled in august already. Ok, it is maybe not a new synth but still, visually it looks damn sweet (even if I say so myself!). Sadly this special edition Little Phatty (of which only 200 are made) is only available to our friends Down Under.

It is Official – MiniMoog Voyager XL

It is Official – MiniMoog Voyager XL

Designed in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Minimoog, the Minimoog Voyager XL is a sonic powerhouse that pays homage to important milestones in the Moog synthesizer legacy. It starts with the heart of a Minimoog Model D. Fat oscillators and warm Moog filters give it that unmistakable Moog sound and the rugged construction and intuitive user interface design immediately tells you that you’re playing a high-quality musical instrument.

We now have a video of DJ Ruthless Ramsey doing a live mix session scratching with good-old cassette tapes. In a world were DJ’s already are leaving CD’s behind and going to work with a couple of SD Flash drives, this guy makes his magic with cassettes! Even though this video has been recorded in 2007…
