Mackie MR5 MKII active studio monitor – Gearjunkies review

The Mackie MR5 MKII has been available for a while now. So we took a closer look at these active studio monitors in our tech lab. These monitors are affordable studio (and DJ) two-way reference monitors. The MR5 has a 1 inch tweeter, 5.25 inch woofer and 55 watts in the low end and 30 watts in the high end, with a bass port at the back. When unpacking these babies I immediately realised, these compact monitors are quite heavy, weighing about six kilos (per monitor).

Steinberg interviews Ben Westbeech

Hailing from London, Ben Westbeech is one heck of a talent from the British Isles who became known back in 2007, releasing tunes via Gilles Peterson’s label Brownswood Recordings and other equally exciting imprints including Strictly Rhythm, Dirtybird and Cross Town Rebels. Right from his debut album Welcome to the Best Years of Your Life through to the hit single Fatherless, Ben’s been producing his tracks with Steinberg Cubase. As a DJ he’s been playing from New York to Tokyo under his own name or his moniker Breach, which shows a deeper side of his love for house music, and under whom the EP Jack is about to be released on the seasoned Dirtybird label. He also runs his label Naked Naked, releasing music from the likes of Midland, Dusky and Dark Sky.

Launchpad S is the evolution of Novation’s best-selling Launchpad 64-button grid music controller — with much brighter buttons, significantly faster refresh rate and it supports multiple software.

And what is that from Allen & Heath?

Yes, the season of ‘teasement‘ has started. Roland is already hard at work with their teaser videos. And now Allen & Heath joins the club. They just posted this video below in which they introduce some kind of controller/mixer. The first thought that pops into mind is that nice looking design. Furthermore we see motorized faders and a color display. The name would be “Qu” if we are correct. We will know more on april 10th when everything will be revealed.

Roland is back! More details on the new synth, workstation?

Like we posted before, last week, Roland will be introducing a new instrument on april 4th. Looking at the video it is fair to say, … a keyboard (duh)! There is a (Dutch) preview website where you can sign up for more information when it will be released on the 4th of april. Information that is available (details from the video) tells us it will be a member of the BK series and pretty much a 76 keys version. Other details are the drawbars and the USB option. Next to part 1 they now show us a little bit more about the new synth, keyboard, workstation?
