Let the FUN begin – Unboxing my new Traktor S4 KONTROL

Let the FUN begin – Unboxing my new Traktor S4 KONTROL

Today is the day! The day that our ‘beloved’ UPS guy rang the doorbell and delivered my long-awaited Traktor S4 KONTROL. Yes, my own, not a review unit that has to go back to the Native Instruments HQ. After opening the box and touching it, feeling it, my initial impressions were pretty much the same after I played with it a few weeks ago at a product showing. Great design with a solid built quality. Considering the other products from Native Instruments, that’s almost obligatory. Either way, on that front NI delivers, again.

Something for the Weekend: Original Korg MS-20 vs. iMS-20

Talk of the town last week. KORG released a vintage synth recreation for the iPad. After the earlier this year released iElectribe, they now gave us the iMS-20 app. The original MS-20 is a patchable semi-modular monophonic synthesizer which Korg released in 1978 and was in production until 1983. Although the MS-20 follows a conventional subtractive synthesis architecture of oscillators/filter/vca, its patch panel allows some rerouting of both audio and modulation, and it includes an external signal processor. This flexibility led to its resurgence during the analog revival of the late 90’s.

Hybrid Midi Turntablism – DN-S3700 Hybrid Mode

Denon’s new Hybrid MIDI mode adds impressive DVS (Digital Vinyl System) versatility to the DN-S3700 Digital Media Turntable and the DN-S1200 Compact Media Player & Controller with today’s leading DJ applications. World’s First Hybrid MIDI mode generates the required CD/Vinyl control signal (timecode) from within the deck’s DSP allowing for super accurate tracking and spinning platter performance (S3700) without using the CD timecode. Other buttons and knobs can control essential features such as, File Browsing, Hot Cues, Looping… etc. over USB MIDI.

With an astounding amount of features, real-time channel matrix operation, slim tabletop design, state-of-the-art solid steel chassis construction and quality sound, the DN-MC6000 is one of Denon DJ’s flagship controllers. Also acting as an audio interface (with a 2 in/2out stereo soundcard included), the DN-MC6000, when paired with the user’s software of choice, is a turnkey control solution for mobile DJs and party DJs, and a clear centerpiece to any DJ rig.

Below we can present the final design to you as first …

Unboxing the 4MidiLoop Controller

Unboxing the 4MidiLoop Controller

We are excited about this one. The 4MidiLoop controller quite made a buzz already for being one ‘hell of a controller’. It would give the NI S4 Kontrol some real competition. Obviously we were intrigued by this puppy and thanks to the guys in Switzerland we are given the opportunity to have a go with the 4MidiLoop DJ Controller. After some difficulties at the Dutch Customs (*sigh*), we finally got our hands on our review model today. So the fun can begin.
