A few years ago Loopmasters started a new concept in the market of traditional ‘Loop and Sample’ packs with their DJ Mixtools series. With each DJ Mixtools release you got the complete stems of four EDM tracks for you to use in your live sets. Each track came with seperate stems for drums, synths, percussion, bass, etc. This way you had ample opportunity to spice up your sets or even do live remixes. This week Loopmasters presented a follow-up on this concept with the Artists EP series. Each edition of this series is a full blown Artist EP released together with all the loops, hits and stems used to create it. First in this series is Guy J with his ‘Transitions EP‘, which is a beautiful collection of four deep hypnotic House and EDM tracks together with all the associated sample used in the production of them.
These are the releases we have encountered this week on the Loops and Samples front. Just like the quality of the audio software we use these days the quality of the content we use (loops and samples) equally matches the high standards of this software. Below is this weeks selection.
Skweee, the mutant funk. Ultra-minimal, bare bones and impossibly catchy. Northern Europe has long been center of this scene, but thanks to the output of Moиöcням and friends, the city of Portland might just be the new skweee hot spot.
The intriguing collaboration of Sam Barker and Andreas Baumecker has already produced some mesmerizing results. Their debut release ‘Candyflip’ touches upon techno, house, trance, broken beat, IDM and dub styles during one 9-minute dancefloor opus, yet despite referencing this multitude of genres, their clear intent was to throw away the rulebook and write their own.
If you see the Zomo MC-1000 for the first time you’ll notice it wants to look different then your usual average controller on the market. By its compact shape and limited amount of buttons, it’s clear (to me) that this isn’t intended to be a stand-alone controller. This device has been developed to be used together with a DJ mixer. It has the width of a 12″ club mixer, like for example a Pioneer DJM-850/900. Furthermore it is clear that the Zomo ‘borrowed’ some design features of Pioneer mixers.
Pro-DJs are about to get a new lease of life, as Pioneer unveils the CDJ-2000nexus – the industry’s first multiplayer to be compatible with rekordbox DJ software on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, Android smartphones and tablets.
iTrack Solo brings Focusrite’s expertise in pre-amp design and digital conversion to an audio interface designed specifically for iPad – it’s also fully compatible with Mac and PC computers. It has separate microphone and instrument inputs as well as stereo outs and a headphone output. iTrack Solo also features gain-halo level indicators which glow green on a healthy input and red on a hot signal.
The limited color editions will aslo be available for the microKey USB keyboard series. With its great-feeling natural-touch mini-keyboard, the microKEY USB MIDI keyboard lets you assemble a music production system in a compact space.
Tek’it Audio has announced the release of DubSiren synthesizer plug-in. DubSiren recreate the siren sounds made famous by Dub and Reggae Jamaican sound system. DubSiren is a siren synthesizer that creates fat siren sound by giving you full control over the sound and the help of the echo/ping-pong delay and the hard clipping distortion.
A few weeks ago the guys from Reloop dropped off a Terminal Mix 4 DJ Midi Controller for us to have a go at. We thought this to be the perfect project for our newest (part-time) team member Dave van Gorp. An enthusiastic gear lover (aren’t we all?) with over 15 years of experience with all types of DJ gear and DJing. Read what he has to say about the Reloop Terminal Mix 4.
Just like speakers, headphones are quite hard to pick because there are so many brands and models to choose from. With the Danish design of the AIAIAI TMA-1 Studio there is yet another model to choose from. Having dealt with various headsets during the years, to me the two most important aspects are sound and durability.
Last week we showed you the excellent work of Mario Jurisch (Synth-Project.de) on a custom controller for the u-he Diva soft synth. Now Mario send us a video of this controller in action. Inside the controller there are 2 Doepfer USB64 Midi Interfaces, one special Wheel Electronic for Pitch and Mod Wheel and the MKE Electronic for the 4 octave Fatar keyboard with velocity. The DIVA Controller has about 90 knobs and 25 switches.
